GEOINT 2008: Exhibitor Round Up BAE, Microsoft, SGI and More

As we are winding down the last day of GEOINT 2008 — with two more hours of floor time left — we wanted to highlight some news coming from the exhibitors. Lots of interesting news coming out of the show this year, and the overall take-way is that the number of technology solutions for our tradecraft seems infinite. So, before we take one last lap on the floor and prepare for the GEOINT 5th Anniversary Party — and if it’s anything like the GeoWalk last night, then it will be a most excellent time — we wanted to do a quick round up of news.

Game Changing Vision from General C. Robert Kehler, U.S. Air Force

We were honored that General C. Robert “Bob” Kehler, U.S. Air Force, Commander, Air Force Space Command, sat down with us and a number of other media outlets after his keynote speech at GEOINT 2008. One potentially game-changing vision he touted and discussed with us was the option of building a separate space platform for intelligence and one for the warfighter and integrating both on the ground.

Director of National Intelligence Shares Vision for 2025 at GEOINT 2008

Certainly a highlight at GEOINT 2008 is being able to breath the same rarefied air as the Honorable Michael McConnell. The Director of National Intelligence took the stage at 11:45 a.m. today and enlightened the crowd on what the future holds for our nation, challenges that face the intel community, sprinkled in with some opening jokes about Secretary Powell, President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

BREAKING NEWS: DNI Releases Budget Figure for 2008 National Intelligence Program

Some very significant news coming on the heels of the first full day of GEOINT, Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) today announced that the intelligence community spent $47.5 billion during the past year — a jump of nearly 10 percent over 2007.

GEOINT 2008 Update: So Much News, So Little Time…What We Have Seen So Far

Reporting from our largest GEOINT symposia to date, this year’s event has, once again, delivered. From dynamic speeches from K. Stuart Shea, Chairman and CEO of USGIF on all the great accomplishments the Foundation as achieved in 5 years, to the official introduction of Keith Masback as the new USGIF president, this is a very exciting/and challenging time for GEOINT. Speeches Honorable James R. Clapper, Jr., USDI, and Mr. Rich Haver of Northrop Grumman focused on how we are truly in a time of transition and a new administration could certainly change the course of our tradecraft. We are excited to have the Honorable James R. Clapper Jr., Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USD(I)), as our very first high-level interview/feature for got geoint?. General Clapper spoke with the editorial staff of got geoint? just prior to the 2008 GEOINT Symposium, where he also will be a keynote speaker.
Gen. Clapper has been called the “father” of GEOINT and we were honored that he shared his vision on the history and future of the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.
