Happy Friday to all. Welcome to our weekly “Friday’s Food for Thought” post. This week we cover a number of items including the move to bring cybersecurity under the NSA’s wing to a clip of the short lived 1995 remake of “Get Smart.” Does anyone remember this version of the show? Must Privacy be Sacrificed in the Name of Security?

While this story is UK-based, the lead architect of the UK’s government’s national security strategy warned citizens that that more “intrusive methods of surveillance” are needed to tackle the threat posed by modern terrorists. Sir David Omond raised this point in a paper by the Institute for Public Policy. What is most interesting is the candor in actually admitting that citizens’ privacy will be compromised.

U.S. Army on YouTube; It’s All About Technology and The Future

The U.S. Army posted a series of YouTube videos called “Future Combat Systems.” These are some highly produced videos that are definitely worth checking out. As many of us develop some of the most cutting-edge geospatial intelligence technologies, it is exciting to see the Army promoting the use of technology in warfare. Press Release: GeoEye-1 Satellite Attains Full Operational Capability Certification From the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

This is certainly significant news for USGIF member, GeoEye. The company’s GeoEye-1 satellite has been certified as meeting their stringent requirements for quality, accuracy and resolution from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). As such, GeoEye is now delivering GeoEye-1 sub-half-meter ground resolution satellite imagery to the NGA. Congrats to GeoEye on this certification. Below is the full press release.
