2010 International ESRI User Conference News Round Up

As many of us in the GEOINT community are busy making the most of the 2010 International ESRI User Conference this week — and with so much news happening — we thought it would be easiest to put all the key ESRI news in one convenient post. No need to do Google news searches. We have it all here. And, for those who aren’t in San Diego this week, this post will give you some insight into what’s happening at the event. We hope you enjoy.

ESRI Supports Strategic Geospatial Initiatives at NGA
Esri and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) announce the formation of a strategic alliance to strengthen national geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) capabilities. The agreement was signed in June by U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Robert B. Murrett, NGA director, and Jack Dangermond, Esri president. The alliance will provide a framework to advance the strategic goals and objectives of the National System for Geospatial Intelligence (NSG) in geospatial sciences and systems and computer science. This new strategic alliance is meant to support the strategies and goals Murrett set last year to ensure the interoperability and reliability and improve the quality of NSG products and services. TerraGo Technologies Announces 3D GeoPDF Solution
TerraGo Technologies, a leading provider of geospatial collaboration software solutions, announced the general availability of TerraGo 3D Composer™, which enables users to publish portable, actionable 3D GeoPDF® maps and imagery from various elevation data sources. TerraGo has also released a new version of the free TerraGo Toolbar™, which gives users the power to view and interact with 3D GeoPDF files. TerraGo will demonstrate the new solutions at the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego this week. Developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense and currently in use with several government agencies, TerraGo 3D Composer gives GIS experts the ability to extend the value and application of their extensive libraries of elevation data. ESRI Unveils ArcGIS Server 10 on Amazon EC2
Concurrent with the release of ArcGIS 10, Esri has made ArcGIS Server 10 available to customers via Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). “ArcGIS Server on Amazon EC2 gives customers another option for deploying ArcGIS Server,” explains Ismael Chivite, product manager for ArcGIS Server. “Essentially, ArcGIS Server on Amazon EC2 will reduce the complexity of software deployments for many organizations. Instead of installing and maintaining local instances of ArcGIS Server on premises, customers can launch ArcGIS Server on EC2 instances with ArcGIS Server preconfigured for them. These ArcGIS Server instances run on machines hosted in the Amazon cloud infrastructure but can be administered as if they are local servers.” Read the full press release here.

Teradata and ESRI Partner to Offer Geospatial Intelligence
Provider of data warehousing and business intelligence solutions Teradata Corporation and ESRI announced on Monday a new relationship that will offer geospatial intelligence. The companies said that they will enable customers to integrate business and geospatial data in a single database, perform advanced analytics and deliver geospatial intelligence to business users to improve decision-making. The partnership combines the geospatial power from ESRI and the Teradata database engine. Read the full press release here.

Abu Dhabi Government Announces Its Participation in ESRI International User Conference
The Government of Abu Dhabi has announced its participation in (ESRI International User Conference), as organized by the Environmental System Research Institute (ESRI) in San Diego, California, for the period 12th to 16th of July. Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre undertakes the responsibility for managing the preparation and coordination of the contributions made by governmental bodies at all Conference levels, which is considered the most important international event in the field of geographic information systems, and an opportunity to meet thousands of elite decision-makers and businessmen, where visitors are keen to attend the numerous activities, technical workshops, interactive sessions, training sessions, maps exhibition, and the other various events to acknowledge the state-of-art technology in the industry. High-Resolution Elevation Map Data for the United States Now Commercially Available from Intermap Technologies
Intermap Technologies, a worldwide 3D digital mapping and geospatial solutions company, today announced at the ESRI International User Conference the full commercial availability of its NEXTMap USA countrywide digital mapping program. Uniformly accurate digital elevation models and images for the contiguous U.S. and Hawaii (approximately 8 million square kilometers) are now available via the company’s Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)-based cloud computing platform, TerrainOnDemand, and its worldwide network of distributors and strategic partners.
