Bruce Carlson Potential New NRO Director

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief

As you all know, we have been covering the goings-on at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) for sometime now. From the Scott Large’s resignation to the announcement of a panel to assess the effectiveness of the agency, there never seems to be a shortage of news to cover.

So, the latest is that the recently retired commander of Air Force Materiel Command, Bruce Carlson will potentially take over as the new NRO Director. Although many feel that he has limited experience in the space world, the overall response from the intelligence community has been positive. Keith Masback, President of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), weighed in on the issue in this DoD Buzz article:

“If he is selected for DNRO, Bruce Carlson certainly has the right background and experience to do a tremendous job. Carlson’s street cred with the warfighters, bona fide space operations time, as well as significant acquisition leadership experience, make him uniquely qualified to lead the ongoing resurgence of the NRO.”

What do you all think about Bruce Carlson as the likely candidate to head the NRO? We welcome all comments and feedback.
