Welcome to the “Think Geospatial” Column by Dr. Max Baber, Director of Academic Programs, USGIF
Added by USGIF Category: General, Inside USGIF

The Soviet Union launched Sputnik in 1957, a first step into space that shocked America and galvanized our national resolve. We responded with significantly increased public investment in science/math education and committed the US space program to manned lunar landing before the end of the 1960s, barely more than a decade after the first satellite! Consider that achievement for a moment, and compare with where we are today — decommissioning our workhorse space shuttle fleet and sending American astronauts to the space station via Russian rockets. Welcome to the new “Think Geospatial” column by Dr. Max Baber, Director of Academic Programs, USGIF. Read more from Dr. Baber in this post.

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief, General, Inside USGIF
USGIF on Sunday participated in the International Spy Museum’s KidSpy Festival. The day included demonstrations and hands-on learning about polygraphs, fingerprints, disguises and more all for kids ages 7 and older as well as their families. USGIF President Keith Masback taught the more than 250 visitors during the day about aerial and satellite imagery and the different types of platforms used to capture this imagery. The 10-minute lesson offered kids the opportunity to look at overhead pictures and guess at what they were looking. After a some helpful hints, students were applying their knowledge to analyze other imagery of the presidential inauguration, famous cities, and other notable images. It was perhaps one of the best demonstrations based on the feedback from the kids and their families.
