As the GEOINT community continues to grow, USGIF believes it is important to increase the involvement of young people as they will become future GEOINT leaders of industry, government and academia. As such, in 2009, the USGIF Young Professionals Group (YPG) was formed to unite junior GEOINT professionals within the Defense and Intelligence communities. This group offers events and programs that parallel USGIF’s mission of advancing the geospatial intelligence tradecraft. Today, we are speaking with one professional who has played a pivotal role in the YPG, Ms. Julie Baer who is a Government Affairs Associate at GeoEye.

Each year, USGIF brings on a new board member who represents the foundation’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) and serves as the YPG working group’s chair during his or her one-year term. This YPG board member has full voting power within the board and exemplifies all the qualities of a future leader and represents GEOINT Young Professionals as a whole. Last year, Mr. Alex Martinez, Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin, served in this role. And, now he is passing the baton the newest YPG board member Mr. Eric Zitz, who is an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton. PODCAST: USGIF Young Professionals Group Hosts First “GEO HUNT” on National Mall in Washington, D.C.

On August 19, the USGIF Young Professionals Group (YPG) is hosting its first GEO HUNT educational exploration event on National Mall in Washington, DC. YPG volunteers will guide and lead teams of children from the Greater Washington Boys and Girls Club through the exploration event, provide answers to clues, as well as give an overview of maps and geospatial intelligence. Today, we are speaking with John Fenwick, Vice President of Government Programs at SkyBox Imaging, and Carrie Drake, Event Operations & Community Relations Manager at USGIF, about this event.

PODCAST: Students from Joppatowne High School Discuss Their Bright Futures in GEOINT

Last month at the USGIF Technology Day, the Foundation hosted a Student Science & Technology Showcase that featured award-winning projects from high school participants of the Science Fair and Technology Student Association competitions. We had the unique pleasure of speaking with a group of students from Joppatowne High School who participated in this event. Following is our podcast with Joppatowne HS students Sintel Paige, Seaver Shunk, Andrea Rogers and Lavale Banks, as well as Eve Bour – their GIS Teacher. Be sure to check this one out.
