Former CIA Director and Attorney General’s Strong Opinion on Release of Interrogation Information

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief

It seems that we always have some sort of breaking news on Friday mornings. Last week, Scott Large announced his resignation. And, now this week, President Obama released the long-sought dossier of Bush-era secrets on the mistreatment of Al Qaeda terror suspects. Out of the 2,126 articles on this topic on Google News, one in particular stood out — this Op-Ed by former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden and former Attorney General, Mr. Mike Mukasey. So, do you think they were showering their praises on the Obama administration for releasing this data? Not exactly. Check out the quote below and stay tuned for “Friday’s Food for Thought.”

“The release of these opinions was unnecessary as a legal matter, and is unsound as a matter of policy. Its effect will be to invite the kind of institutional timidity and fear of recrimination that weakened intelligence gathering in the past, and that we came sorely to regret on Sept. 11, 2001.”

This is the biggest intel news going today. Would welcome your opinion on this. Should the Obama administration released this information??
