We all love Fridays. Especially this Friday. Spring seems to be around the corner. The stock market was up for the second time this week. And, Bernard L. Madoff was jailed after pleading guilty to fraud yesterday. Perhaps things are turning around? So, let’s dive into Friday’s Food for Thought and see what other “good” news we can uncover regarding GEOINT, GIS, Imagery, Mapping and the Intelligence Community to keep this positive momentum going. OGC Receives “Professional Service to Geospatial Community Award”
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) was awarded the “Professional Service to Geospatial Community Award” at the Atrecent Map World Forum trade show and conference in Hyderabad, India. The award was given to the OGC by Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India. Congrats OGC!
USGIF Chairman and Founder Named Fed 100
Although we already covered this, it is certainly worth highlighting again — fitting in with our “positive” news spin this morning. For those of you who missed it K. Stuart Shea, Founder and Chairman of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation was named a Federal 100 winner by Federal Computer Week. As you all may know, Mr. Shea has been a pivotal force in the GEOINT community and we extend our formal congratulations to him!
USGIF Member FortiusOne Awarded FGDC NSDI CAP Award to Geo-Enable Government Data
We wanted to send out a congratulations to USGIF member FortiusOne for receiving the Federal Geographic Data Committee’s (FGDC) National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Cooperative Agreements Program Award to geo-enable the US government’s tabular data. FortiusOne’s GeoCommons Platform will be utilized to create geospatial datasets automatically from tabular government data containing location-based references (addresses, ZIP code, county, city, state, etc.). There Are Jobs-o-Plenty in GEOINT
Despite an ailing economy, the GEOINT sector is doing well. There are more than 1000 jobs available in GEOINT-related activities within our member companies and government agencies. And, as you all may know, the NGA is often holding hiring events and are always looking for top talent.
Jon Stewart Had it Out With Jim Cramer
And, now for the more entertaining news of the day. Jon Stewart had it out with Jim Cramer on the Daily Show last night. Apparently, it was an epic episode that was definitely worth seeing. Now, unfortunately, Comedy Central is not a fan of people posting Daily Show clips on YouTube, so the video clip has not yet popped up on the site. But, in the meantime, feel free to check out this clip leading up to the big showdown between Stewart and Cramer:
