Added by Category: Friday's Food for Thought, General

Happy Friday to all. Welcome to our weekly “Friday’s Food for Thought” post. This week we cover a number of items including the move to bring cybersecurity under the NSA’s wing to a clip of the short lived 1995 remake of “Get Smart.” Does anyone remember this version of the show? We certainly don’t, but posted a video clip of it for your viewing pleasure. Oh, and be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the post. We have another video clip that you will not want to miss.

NSA is Taking Over Cybersecurity
You all probably saw this story yesterday, but it definitely is worthy of covering on our blog. According to the new DNI, NSA will assume a greater role in cybersecurity because of its strong technology capabilities. Read more here.

The Rise of Goverati
We are always excited to see coverage of Web 2.0 and the government. We believe that it is an emerging trend that will have long staying power. And, so does Mark Drapeau of Federal Computer Week.

Mapping and The Entertainment World
This is truly a sign that mapping technologies can be used for any tracking anything. You can now track all entertainment stories and videos all over the world with this application on Washington Posts’ web site. Although, our team of reviewers checked it out, and they came to the conclusion that it’s still (or should be) in the beta phase. We scroll over stories in LA, NY and NC and they all seem to have the same stories – no real differentiation. We don’t know. Perhaps we are missing something. Check it out and let us know what you think.

V1 Magazine White Paper on 3D Models
We are big fans of V1 Magazine and we highly recommend you check out their most-informative white papers. They recently posted one on the move to 3D modeling when analyzing geospatial data. Check out the white paper here.

Mark Your Calendars: Commercial Civil Imagery Evaluation Workshop
The NGA, along JACIE, NASA, USDA and USGCS, is hosting the Commercial Civil Imagery Evaluation Workshop on March March 31 – April 2, 2009 at the Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks, Fairfax, Virginia. Be sure to mark your calendars. Also, a number of USGIF members, including Merrick & Company, GeoEye and DigitalGlobe, will be speaking at the event. Click here for more information.

Who Knew that Fox Did a Re-Make on “Get Smart” Back in 1995?
On to the more fun news. Did you all know that Fox had a very short-lived remake of the classic “Get Smart”? Don Adams was actually in the show. Who knew?? Check out this clip from it:

Everything is Amazing Right Now and Nobody is Happy
As you know, we often veer towards the funny and sublime towards the end of our “Friday’s Food for Thought” post. If you have not seen this clip from the Conan O’Brien Show, this is by far the funniest clip going around the web this week (almost as good as the Joaquin Phoenix post). Enjoy.

Hope you have a productive Friday and a relaxing weekend.

I’d like to see some more 3D mapping, modeling and simulation worked into the GEOINT Symposium. It really is an important piece that the Training & Simulation world has been dabbling in, but has immersed itself as it needs to with geospaital intelligence.
