GEOINT 2009 Announces New Offerings for San Antonio
Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief
We find it hard to believe that GEOINT 2009 is a little more than a month away. It seems like yesterday that we were all in Nashville networking, learning about the latest technologies, gaining insights from leaders from defense and intelligence, and having some fun (can’t forget that part). Well, it is all around the corner again this year, and USGIF has some news to share regarding events and offerings surrounding GEOINT 2009 in San Antonio. So scroll down to learn more.
Interested in the new developments from MIT Lincoln Laboratory?
USGIF has teamed with MIT for a half-day tutorial titled ISR Capabilities and Trends. This 4-hour sensor tutorial on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. features five 40- to 45-minute modules. The set of topics includes MIT Radar Systems, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Imaging, Active and Passive Electro Optics, 3-D Exploitation of Large 2-D Urban Photo Archives, and Information Theory and ISR Decision Support System Performance. All full-symposium registrants are welcome to participate in this Sunday session. No additional registration is required.
Check out the Alamo!
USGIF encourages you to take advantage of special GEOINT access to the place where a small band of Texans held out for 13 days against the army of General Antonio López de Santa Anna coming to symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of liberty. USGIF has made a donation to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, who have served as custodians of the Alamo since 1905, giving all registrants for GEOINT 2009 an after-hours opportunity to explore the Old Mission.
Are you traveling with your spouse or a guest?
This year, USGIF has reduced the price for spouse and guest passes for the GEOINT Symposium to $75 while increasing the offerings. This spouse/guest pass now provides access to the exhibit hall after 4 p.m. and all evening networking events to include the Welcome Reception at Cowboys Dancehall, after-hours access to the Alamo, GEOWalk Corporate Hospitality Night on the Riverwalk, and the Closing Celebration, including the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award and special musical guest World Classic Rockers. You can purchase your spouse/guest pass during pre-registration or on site at GEOINT 2009. Also, the City of San Antonio has pulled together special tours during the day for spouses and guests to experience more of the city while you attend the daily sessions. The city will have an on-site kiosk to register for events as well. Please note, a minimum number of participants are required for the optional tours.
Do you enjoy the more in-depth discussions of specific topics?
Last year’s afternoon breakout sessions were well received by the GEOINT 2008 audience, so we’ve expanded the idea for the GEOINT 2009 Symposium. After the general session concludes each day at 12:30 p.m. the in-depth sessions continue, beginning at lunch and running until the afternoon exhibit hall receptions at 4:30 p.m. On Monday, Oct. 19, we have a lunchtime Spatial Law and Policy roundtable and breakout sessions on “NATO & the International Community” as well as “Persistent Surveillance”. Tuesday, Oct. 20, offers a lunchtime roundtable on “Functional Management Delivers Geospatial Capability ” and breakouts titled “The Promise & Pitfalls of Location Based Services” and “GEOINT & Open Source: A Global Foundation for Intelligence Impact.” The final day of the symposium, Wednesday, Oct. 21, features a BuckEye User Group meeting during lunch and three afternoon breakouts, “Emerging Technologies Showcase: NURI NARP presentations,” “ Virtual Worlds & Modeling & Simulation,” and “GEOINT & MASINT: Driving Intelligence Innovation.”
Did you miss last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award Presentation & Closing Celebration?
If you didn’t see our community’s own musical legend Skunk Baxter jam with country music sensation Phil Vassar last year in Nashville, then you missed one heck of a celebration. Building on the success of the casual reception-like event last year, USGIF will bring you the World Classic Rockers for a final night of networking and reflecting on the week. Following the brief but important presentation of the 2009 USGIF Lifetime Achievement Award, we’ll all enjoy food and refreshments while listening to great hits from former members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Toto, Steppenwolf, Journey, Santana and Boston.
See you all in San Antonio!!
