Gingrich: Democrats Shown Shameless Willingness to Play Politics with National Security

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief

The political battlefield is heating up surrounding the disclosure that former Vice President Dick Cheney did not disclose a secret counterterrorism program with Congress. Here’s the latest, Pelosi and House Democrats are pushing ahead with plans to hold a series of hearings investigating instances in which intelligence officials may have misled members of Congress. Although, this Op-Ed by Newt Gingrich came out on July 10, it mirrors a key message being touted by the Republicans: Democrats are playing politics with our national security.

What do you all think about this? It is believed that the secret counterterrorism program came about in the wake of 9/11 — a very vulnerable time for our nation and our leadership. On the flip side of the coin, the so-called Gang of Eight House and Senate leaders and top Intelligence committee members, are directed under federal law to receive regular intelligence briefings. So, according to the law, this program should have been brought to light to Congress. Wow, when are they going to make a movie out of this one??

    From Linked-In:

Didn’t VP Joe Biden let it slip as to the whereabouts of his “secure undisclosed location?” Wasn’t it a Congressman that leaked to the press the fact that the CIA and/or NSA were listening in on Bin Laden’s phone calls? I wouldn’t tell Congress a damned thing. Let the CIA do their job.

Personally, in my opinion, The Dems have arbitrarily sided with Al Qaeda and the Taliban, and any program classified or not that seeks to attack or destroy those organizations have been openly attacked by the Dems as they defend terrorist organizations from our national defense institutions.

Right now I believe that our Intelligence Community is all but crippled in defending this nation from future attacks. So, either the Dems want another attack to legitimize a military build up and further federalization of the US economy, or the Dems are so incompetent as to be utterly clueless to the damage they are committing to this nation.

We need to restore the rule of law and enforce the laws governing treason in a time of war. The actions of this Administration and members of Congress have openly committed crimes against the Constitution and the American people.

Sounds like another deparate move to use national security as an excuse to hide unlawful politics. As far I’m concern, those bearing arms to protect the country, our enlisted, directly under the control of the president of the united states, should be the one responsible for our national security, and not a vice-president having nothing to do but make money off his position in politics and play defense secretary with a secret army on-a-side because he misses being one.

No movie needed, there were at least three series made from it – ’24′ (the program sounds a lot like CTU), ‘The Unit’, and a short-lived one still available on satellite I caught the other day (though I can’t remember the name).

So let me get this right: we are about to spend lots of bucks on a trial or special prosecutor to investigate something that everyone admits DID NOT actually become operational, and which therefore WAS NOT required to be reported, and when the initial planning was stopped because of legal concerns WAS reported to Congress, by Leon Panetta (D) no less. Appears to me the accountability/filtering system actually worked. Better to investigate GE’s contributive links to the administration, DNC, and Al Gore’s carbon-credit industry shake down scam.

Hmmmm….all the now-Hoopla sounds a lot like lingering Bush Derangement Syndrome to me. The whole thing smacks of a smart PR campaign by the DNC to throw the anti-war/anti-Bush radical left a bone to deflect their Afghan ramp-up and broken Iraq withdrawal promises – and the fact that TARP I has not been the “needed now!!” job creation machine it was touted to be.

As for unanimous’ claim about Cheney making money off his ‘book’, he/she would be well to remember that a certain 18-month Senator from Illinois also used his national platform to sell his TWO books – and himself – and buy an actual Presidency and fortune; Cheney has yet to write ONE.

The vice president has no constitutional powers over the military. I would agree we should be a country of law. The penalty for treason in a time of war is death by hanging. Revealing the secret identity of a CIA operative is treason and Scooter and VP Cheney should meet with the law. They committed treason against the USA for political reasons and should pay the price. VP Cheney acted as if he was the VP also directed a secret army (BLACKWATER) in Iraq and they operated in the USA. There is no constitutional provision for secret armies. Neither the President or the VP has that right. The Constitution is the law of the land. The National Security Act states that the Congress must be told about any current programs or POSSIBLE program that the CIA is or may use in the future.
Not informing the Congress for review is a violation of the NSA. This is treason. There are checks and balances in this country unlike dictatorships and that is what makes this country great.

Cheney mad money off oil proceeds in Afghanistan, with a new chiney oil pipeline that the original government would let him put there when he worked for Haliburtan but they have it now.

@Heraclius try as you will to blame the DNC for TARP in your rant, but it was Bush that in acted TARP and the AIG bailout for well over 1 billion dollars which can not be accounted for like much of the money that hemorrhaged out of Washington in is record spending and deficit presidency.

As far as the progress of the current president. Since it was touted as a two year plan I think you might be a bit premature in saying it isn’t working since it hasn’t been in effect for more then 6 months and has not rolled out completely yet.

Or Haliburton getting bonuses for wasting money from its NO BID contracts. (ILLEGAL)

IF the president of the USA doesn’t look into the treason of Cheney and possibly Bush he is as guilty as they are and should be forced out of office. This country is supposed to be one of laws. We seem to busy to enforce them. We complain about “them” who spy on their citizens and have secret prisons, torture, hold prisoners with out trials or representation. We call them evil and we as americans should rally to their citizens.

The reason the World not just the EU loves/likes/respects Pres. Obama is all these things happened in this country and they say it happen and you didn’t. They are hoping the USA of the Constitution and the rule of law is back. The world need it back and so do we. I hope that is the change we get.

Live free or die… Interesting how that is playing out in Iran don’t you think?
