Maryland Man Secret Agent for Saddam

Added by USGIF Category: General

The D.C. area is always cloaked with intrigue when it comes to spies helping out nations averse to the U.S. Remember Robert Hanssen? How about Aldrich Ames? Or Earl Edwin Pitts?

And now, we have a 67-year-old Iraqi who has been living in the United States since the 1980s pleaded guilty to federal charges for being a secret spy for Saddam Hussein. Saubhe Jassim Al-Dellemy (or code name “Adam”) was identified as an agent through documents recovered after the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

In addition, he was a restaurateur in Laurel, Maryland, a rather inconspicuous occupation for a spy. So, in D.C., you never know who could be doing covert work against our nation. Could be your drycleaner in Reston, or the nice person who gives you coffee when you fill up in Rockville. You never know.
