Northrop Developing Football-Field-Size “Eye In The Sky” Surveillance Aircraft

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief

In what is being billed as a “disruptive innovation,” Northrop Grumman just announced that it won a $517 million Army contract Monday to develop an unmanned combat-surveillance airship that is the size of a football field and can track enemy forces from more than 2,000 miles away. It was also reported that this hybrid “eye in the sky” aircraft can feed the military uninterrupted battle-surveillance data for more than three weeks at a time. Very much sounds like a next-gen GEOINT solution. There was no report as to when this aircraft was going to be built or launched, but we will certainly be covering it. And, heck, we want to see what this thing will look like — a football field is a pretty large thing. You can read more about this deal on here.
