Official: Gen. Clapper a Leading Candidate to Replace Blair

A government official tells ABC News that Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper (ret) is a leading candidate to replace ousted Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair. Clapper is currently Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, serving in that role since 2007. He has also served as Blair’s principal advisor on defense intelligence matters. He formerly headed the Defense Intelligence Agency. Others who have been considered for the job include former Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, source tell ABC News. Many consider General Clapper to the “father” of GEOINT.
