CIA Tackles Climate Change and Its Risk to National Security

The Center is a small unit led by senior specialists from the Directorate of Intelligence and the Directorate of Science and Technology.

Friday’s Food for Thought: The Big Blue Marble, George Carlin and Other Environmental News

Does anyone remember the kids’ TV show from the 70′s called “The Big Blue Marble”? While the show was more about embracing a multicultural existence for children, we are bringing it up more because the “big blue marble” seems to be popping up in the news. From our recent post on the intelligence community acknowledging climate change as a national security threat to mapping shoreline erosion off of the Chesapeake Bay, the environment keeps coming up. So, for our Friday’s Food for Thought, we decided to go with an environmental theme. Hope you enjoy.

Intelligence Community Acknowledges Climate Change as National Security Threat

My how the times have changed. While climate change was not necessarily a priority for the previous administration, for the Obama team, it is top-of-mind. So much so that the defense and intelligence leaders are acknowledging and even anticipating climate change as being a long-term and significant threat to national security — according to the Christian Science Monitor.
