Major Anniversaries for Key Intelligence Agencies This Year

This year marks major anniversaries for some of the most significant intelligence agencies that utilize and advance the concept of GEOINT. Last week, we highlighted how the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) marked its 50th anniversary. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and yesterday the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) made note of its 50-year legacy. Congratulations to all of these agencies for achieving these major milestones, advancing the mission and keeping our nation safe.

Next NGA Director Discusses Role of Women in the Intelligence Community

Last month, we announced the appointment of Letitia Long (pictured with Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair), deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency director post. This was certainly major news for the intelligence community because Long will be the first woman to lead a major intelligence agency. Here’s what she had to say during a Pentagon Channel interview about this very topic: “I am certainly aware of all the women who have come before me, all of the women who have accomplished truly remarkable things and have blazed the path.” In addition, Long also noted that the intelligence and defense communities have gained a tremendous amount by incorporating both just women and minorities.
