Welcome to the Friday’s Food for Thought post from got geoint? As our faithful readers know, we like to honor Earth Day, because well, GEOINT, or humanity for that matter, would not exist without good old mother Earth. And let’s not forget that Earth Day turns 41 today. Yes, last year was a big deal — the big “40″ — but who really honors a 41st anniversary? Well, we do. And on a separate note, USGIF is hosting, in conjunction with Women In Technology (WIT), its “Meet the Agency” event where attendees got to learn more about the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency(NGA) on Monday. Be sure to mark your calendars and happy Earth Day!

Earth Day Turns 40: Earth’s Majestic Beauty From Up Above

As GEOINT professionals, Earth Day is a pretty special thing. And this year is very special. It marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. In 1970, Democrat Governor of Wisconsin Gaylord Nelson initiated the Earth Day by staging an environmental rally to raise awareness around the delicate issue of environment which had become a haunting problem due to excessive industrialization at the time. The premise behind “Earth Day” is that every human being regardless of territory, race, creed, or wealth, has an ethical right to a natural and healthy environment. And on April 22, 1970, more than 20 million Americans joined together to mark this special occasion.

Friday’s Food for Thought: Earth Day and We Got a Call About a Movie

Happy Friday. It has been quite a week for the intelligence and defense communities. From the political fall-out of the Obama administration releasing the interrogation memos to the breach of the Joint Strike Fighter program, it has been a week rife with drama. I’m sure many are ready for the weekend to begin, and enjoy the nice weather. Speaking of weather and the environment, we neglected to pay homage to Earth Day this week.
