Friday’s Food for Thought: Power to the People; Democratization of GEOINT
Added by USGIF Category: Friday's Food for Thought, General
Welcome to the Friday’s Food for Thought post from got geoint? We hope everyone enjoyed the little taste of spring — and tomorrow is the first official day of spring — that we had this week on the east coast. For this week’s FFT post, we thought we would tackle the idea of GEOINT being in the “hands of the people.” Yesterday, we covered an “everyone-as-an-informant” mapping and tracking application called Ushahidi , which made us think…will GEOINT truly be a democratic thing in the future? We will be relying on crowd-sourced data “from the people” to find our enemies? Possibly. The technology and applications are out there.

Friday’s Food for Thought: From Underground GEOINT to Underground Music
Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief, Friday's Food for Thought, General
Welcome to the Friday’s Food for Thought post from got geoint? As always, we hope that you all had a productive work week and are ready to coast into the weekend. Earlier this week, we covered a story about DARPA’s “Transparent Underground,” and how Geospatial Corporation has actually been doing the whole underground mapping thing since 2005. So, we wanted to take the concept of “underground” and take it to the next level. For example, why are underground bands soo much cooler than mainstream ones? Why do underground artists and designers seem to have more cred? And, are there any cool underground GEOINT trends happening right now? Well, we try our best to answer these questions in this week’s FFT post. And, be sure to check out the funny video at the end of this post.

Yep, you can learn about that, and much more in this historic GEOINT post. Oh, and as the late Bob Marley once said, “In this great future, you can’t forget your past.” Happy Friday!

Friday’s Food for Thought: Paper Versus Digital
Added by USGIF Category: Friday's Food for Thought, General
Welcome once again to the Friday’s Food for Thought post on got geoint? We hope everyone had a productive work week. This week, we covered a story about the U.S. Air Force re-assessing the use of GPS and how they may consider going back to using old fashioned paper maps. So, for this week’s FFT theme we wanted to tackle the concept of paper versus digital. 10 years ago industry pundits predicted — with the advent of the Internet — that we would all go completely paperless. Has this actually happened? We are certainly more digitally connected than we have ever been, but will paper eventually go away? We hope to tackle this subject in today’s post. So, read on and enjoy.

So, this post is all about “thinking.”

Added by USGIF Category: Friday's Food for Thought, General
Welcome once again to the Friday’s Food for Thought post. We hope everyone had a productive week and are looking forward to a restful weekend. This week, on September 22nd at 5:18 PM EDT to be precise, it officially became fall. Yes, summer is a fading memory, and the theme for this post is all about autumn. For many, it is a time to circle the wagons, focus on work/school and shake off the side-effects of the backyard BBQ season. For us, it means one very important thing: GEOINT 2009 Symposium. In many ways, the GEOINT symposium serves as a time for the entire community to circle the wagons, learn and share information and gear up for a successful 2010. Scroll down to read more.

Added by USGIF Category: Friday's Food for Thought
As many of our readers know, our Friday’s Food for Thought post is often peppered with the funny, absurd, sublime and the down-right silly. With this post, we aim to entertain and enlighten (hopefully) our readers as they ride out the last hours of the work week. Today, is going to be very different. On this day, eight years ago, 2,993 innocent people lost their lives in what is the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil. So, today’s FFT post is going to pay tribute to those who lost their lives, and to those who are fighting to defend our freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq. We have compiled a montage of videos and images from a day we will all remember. Scroll down for more.

Added by USGIF Category: Friday's Food for Thought, General
Welcome to the ever-famous, ever-popular Friday’s Food for Thought post on got geoint? We live in a world populated with people who have the most amazing — and some say mind blowing — talents. And, many scientists believe that all humans will eventually evolve into having these traits. How does this impact us and our community? Think about it. These talents could be used by the Intelligence Community to help further protect our nation. For example, there is a woman whose sense of sight and sound are blended and she actually sees colors as a result. Wouldn’t a person with these talents be an asset to the NSA? Pretty cool, huh? Read more below.
