2010: A Look Back at GEOINT Leadership, Growth and Innovation (and Jesus Found by StreetView)

2010 seemed to be the year that the GEOINT sector as well as the use of location-based technologies for businesses and consumers really caught fire. The reality is that location-based technologies — whether the use of portal GPS devices, or the adoption of services like FourSquare — have been growing for years, but for some reason 2010 was the year of GEOINT. As such, we have decided to pull together the top stories that have impacted our world over the past 12 months. From the appointment of Letitia Long as the new NGA Director to the kookiness of Google StreetView, we have it all in this post. We hope you enjoy and here’s to a great 2011.

Welcome to the Friday’s Food for Thought post on got geoint? As our faithful readers know, we like to feature a theme each week that ties into the GEOINT world in this post. While we could have very easily made this post about the record heat wave that hit the east coast this week, we decided to make this theme about GEOINT jobs and the concept of working in general. Why? Well, because working in the GEOINT community is very cool and USGIF is hosting its first career fair next week. So, strap on your boots, as we discuss working, jobs and GEOINT. Friday’s Food for Thought: Google Launches Sky Map; Map of TARP; and New OnStar Application for Roadside Safety

Welcome once again to Friday’s Food for Thought. The theme for this week’s post is…well, we really did not have a theme. There was just too much cool news to cover that we opted out of doing one. For example, Google launched Sky Map, so you can track the stars and planets up in the heaven, Microsoft Virtual Earth and OnStar partnered to provide 3D tracking capabilities so first responders can find accident victims, and much more.
