Geospatial Revolution Project Episode 1 = Absolutely Awesome

We are excited to announce that the first episode of the Geospatial Revolution Project is now available. And, all we can say is that it is absolutely awesome. Geospatial technologies are truly revolutionary, and this episode reminds us that what we do as GIS/GEOINT professionals has (and will continue to) changed the world. In case you are not familiar with the Geospatial Revolution Project it is an integrated public media and outreach initiative about the world of digital mapping and how it is changing the way we think, behave, and interact created by Penn State Public Broadcasting. Geospatial Technologies: Tech Trend that Could Transform the Federal Government

Input, a market research company focusing on the government sector, has identified five technology trends that it says will transform the federal government: cloud computing, virtualization, service-oriented architecture, open-source software and geospatial technologies. According to a Dec. 7 news release based on Input’s November report, “Emerging Technology Markets in the U.S. Federal Government, 2009-2014,” these technological areas are “poised for increased federal government adoption over the next five years as cost-saving initiatives drive investment in these solutions.” One thing to note is that federal market for geospatial technology is expected to increase from $860 million to $1.4 billion, at a rate of 8 percent. The Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and GEOINT

Jeff Thurston, co-founder and editor of V1 Magazine who is based in Berlin, recently penned a highly compelling editorial on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the rise of geospatial technologies. Written from the perspective of someone who has lived in Germany since 1994, and whose spouse actually lived in Germany during this historic event, Thurston highlights how much things have changed in the past 20 years from a point of view that carries tremendous meaning for us: from a geospatial perspective.
