Intelligence Community in Top 10 Best to Places to Work

While this is clearly not a surprise to us, it is certainly nice to see the Intelligence Community (IC) being validated as a great place to work. According to the 2011 Best Places to Work ranking, the IC came in the top 10 at 8th place. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) topped the list along with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Government Accountability Office, Smithsonian Institute and NASA. Congratulations to our leaders for making the IC an ideal place for driven professionals who are passionate about securing our great nation.

Major Anniversaries for Key Intelligence Agencies This Year

This year marks major anniversaries for some of the most significant intelligence agencies that utilize and advance the concept of GEOINT. Last week, we highlighted how the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) marked its 50th anniversary. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and yesterday the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) made note of its 50-year legacy. Congratulations to all of these agencies for achieving these major milestones, advancing the mission and keeping our nation safe.

Information Sharing Environment (ISE) Issues Annual Report to Congress

Six years ago, the threats against the American people and our institutions compelled Congress to accelerate responsible information sharing across every level of government with the creation of the Information Sharing Environment (ISE). The ISE is a government organization that provides analysts, operators, and investigators with integrated and synthesized terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, and homeland security information needed to enhance national security and help keep our country safe. The organization just issued its 2011 ISE Annual Report to Congress that covers issues such as interoperability, updates on the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative and much more.

My How Things Have Changed: CIA Declassifies WWI-Era Secret Documents

Often looking into the past makes us realize how things have changed and progressed. Remember life before the Internet? Seems kind of odd to think that more than 15 years ago, we were not hyper-connected to each other — and phoning and faxing were the only way to get things done. Well, the same can be said about how intelligence gathering techniques have changed over time. From the evolution of GEOINT being the common denominator for all other layers of intelligence to the rise of innovative intelligence gathering and sharing technologies, the Intelligence Community (IC) moves at a very quick pace when it comes to innovation. Though back during World War I, the IC used some very interesting intelligence-gathering techniques that could come straight out of a Hollywood movie.
