		<description>While it seems counter-intuitive to most people in defense, defense spending actually fared better under Democrats than Republicans from 1946 through 2001. My theory is that Democrats have to fund defense more richly than Republicans to shore up their position with the public, which broadly equates Democrats as weak on defense.</description>
