The Pentagon and Web 2.0

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief, General

It truly seems that we are in a Web 2.0 world these days — especially when it comes to government and Defense. For example, did you know that all of these government-related entities were on Twitter? Did you know that the US Government has its own official blog?

Also, the Pentagon has recently made its foray into podcasting with it’s new BlogTalkRadio Channel. Check out this post from Wired about this podcast called, “Armed with Science: Research and Applications for the Modern Military.”

Of course, yours truly at got geoint?, has been diving into podcasting as well. And, as always, check us out on Twitter as well.

What do you all think about Web 2.0 and government?

Web 2.0 is definitely important for government, as the technology at its heart is about empowering individuals to contribute and collaborate. Unfortunately the examples we see in government tend to be consumer- or public-facing, and often one-directional (i.e., content published out to public).

What really is interesting to me for the DoD/Intel community is Enterprise 2.0, allowing individuals within the DoD/Intel realm, behind the secure firewalls, to contribute and collaborate using these new technologies.
