VADM Robert Murrett’s Farewell Note: Wishing a “Bright, Shining Future” for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

Added by USGIF Category: Daily Intelligence Brief, General

Today, it’s time to say farewell and to express deep appreciation to the entire NGA workforce. You continue to do remarkable work every day. At all the places NGA has been asked to take on a new task or support a new mission, you – the men and women of NGA – have taken on the challenge and excelled.

In the last few years, many of us have traveled to countless places receiving praise – not for the work we have done as individuals but for the work that our NGA people continue to do with others to bring expertise and focus on the common concerns of the Nation. Throughout all of this, you have saved untold lives and improved the effectiveness of our combat forces. You have identified dangerous threats and through superb analysis illustrated the national security implications of world events. You have kept our Agency on budget and executed thousands of contracts. You have embedded GEOINT with our partners in the defense, intelligence and civil communities as well as our Allies around the world to better integrate our capabilities and leverage our integrated architecture. You have ensured our systems were running and developed the next generation of tools. You have trained and championed our workforce. You have kept our facilities, our information and our people safe. You have taken on every challenge and exceeded expectations.

There are many reasons to be confident about NGA’s future, and the best reason to be confident is the people of NGA, which represent our strategic advantage. I’d especially like to thank Deputy Director Lloyd Rowland for his exceptional partnership, his reliable counsel, and his deep commitment to the NGA workforce at every level. With the NGA workforce and our seasoned leadership team, Ms. Long will ably guide our Agency into the future. Whatever the future holds, I won’t be retiring in any conventional sense of the word. Judy and I will continue active interest in the future of NGA and look forward to watching your continued progress under Ms. Long.

Thank you for your commitment and service, and for all that you have done to advance our mission in so many ways at so many places around the world. Your partnership with others continues to make a vital difference, and it’s great to have been a part of the NGA team. Judy and I wish you the very best as you go forward into the bright, shining future of this great Agency.
